The Fylde Gallery Lytham

Forthcoming exhibitons:

  • An Art Refined – Stanley Warburton 16th February to 23rd March

This important exhibition focuses on the lifetime’s work of Stanley Warburton. He has many connections with Lancashire, particularly with the Pennine country and East Lancashire, and currently with Lytham St. Annes where he now lives.

The exhibition is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a range of oils and watercolours now mostly residing in private collections. Fourteen of his paintings are in the permanent collections at a number of Northern and Midland galleries.

Many of the landscapes featured have disappeared in the quest for modernisation; his paintings represent a fascinating insight into many parts of the Northern scene.

The exhibition is jointly promoted by Fylde Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, Booths Supermarket, Fylde Decorative and Fine Arts Society and The Friends of the Lytham St. Annes Art Collection.

The Mexico Lifeboat Disaster:  125th Commemoration by Lytham Heritage Group

Charles Biggs by ED Walker

Lytham Heritage Centre commemorates the 125th Anniversary of the Mexico Lifeboat Disaster of 1886. The tragic events

The disaster shocked the nation. It was, and still remains, the worst in the history of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and had far-reaching effects both on lifeboat design and on charity fundraising. Seeking to help those widowed and orphaned by the tragedy, Sir Charles Macara, a Manchester businessman who lived in St Annes, initiated Lifeboat Saturday, the first ever organised street collection for charity.
