The ‘Mexico’ Disaster

12 October – 21 November 2021

This exhibition commemorates the 135th anniversary of the worst ever Lifeboat disaster that occurred locally on 9 December 1886, when 27 lifeboat men from Southport and Lytham St Annes lost their lives trying to save the crew of a German barque called the Mexico.

Lytham Heritage Group was established in 1987 to preserve and promote the history and heritage of the Ancient Parish of Lytham, which includes Lytham, Saltcotes, Ansdell, Fairhaven, Heyhouses, Kilgrimol and St Annes. The Group  regularly presents arts-based exhibitions.
