Flying Boats & Fylde

5 September – 1 October 2017

This exhibition celebrates 100 years of aircraft manufacture on the Fylde. From 1917 unique aircraft that could land on water, known as flying boats, were manufactured and flight-tested in Lytham. They were built by the Dick, Kerr Co., a predecessor company of BAE Systems. The exhibition also explores Blackpool Airport’s early history as host of the first ever officially recognised Air Pageant in 1909. It then charts the decade afterwards when the early aviators were vying for speed and height records in their flimsy aeroplanes and giving rides to intrepid passengers.

The exhibition has been created by BAE Systems Heritage.
