Fur and Feather

5 May – 26 June 2018

Fur and Feather by Emerson Mayes is an exhibition of oil paintings and drypoints exploring the birds and beasts that can be found inBrantwood’s Lakeland estate.  These works walk that thin line between the representation of the subject and physicality of the act of painting and drawing.

Emerson Mayes is a Yorkshire-born artist who has experienced that rarest of things: success – both critical and commercial. From the day he graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1994, he has enjoyed a growing reputation for a fresh, honest and uncontrived approach to his work.  Emerson’s work reflects his obvious passion for British wildlife. Winning the Young Artist of the Year Award in 1995 was the first of a number of major awards he has received. This together with successful shows across the country and in London has resulted in Emerson having an ever-growing number of loyal collectors, both private and corporate – including The National Trust and The House of Lords.  He is also the CEO of New Light, a charity which grew out of a desire to celebrate and promote the rich, artistic heritage of the North of England and, in particular, the quality of the contemporary art being produced in the region today.
