Day visit: Judges’ Lodgings, Lancaster & Winter Gardens, Morecambe

Thursday 28 May 2020

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EXCURSION HAS BEEN POSTPONED

The Judges’ Lodgings Museum

We begin with a tour, with refreshments, of this grade 1 listed museum, the majority of which was constructed in the early 1600s and was the home of the infamous gaoler of the Lancashire witches, Thomas Covell. It contains the world’s largest public collection of furniture by Gillow & Co., contemporaries of Chippendale, mentioned by Jane Austen. Due to the age of the building disabled access is limited. Full details are available from Jean Holland (Tel: 07859 006639; Email: jeanho23@hotmail.com).

After the tour we depart for a light lunch at Morecambe Golf Club. Lunch options are:

  • Beef lasagne
  • Cajun chicken
  • Spinach & ricotta cannelloni

All served with chips, mixed salad and garlic bread. Tea / coffee.

Winter Gardens, Morecambe

A guided tour will give you the opportunity to admire this theatre’s architecture and enjoy a glimpse behind the scenes backstage, and step on to the stage where so many famous names have performed. You will see the breath-taking mosaic tiled floor and marble steps and  hear about the Winter Garden’s future plans for its regeneration before leaving for home at about 3:30.
