PERIPHERIES OF ENCHANTMENT

Within Heather’s Paper Works, a slightly eerie atmosphere underpins a curious world. where illustrative prints and enchanted forest fables transport the viewer to make-believe places.

Hybrid creatures, iridescent insects and birds of superstition collide in Art Nouveau settings.

In a desire to believe in something other than the real world we inhabit, Heather explores narrative, myth and metaphor, bewitching the viewer with a fabricated reality where eerie and elaborate winged beasts roam utterly spellbinding landscapes.

A UK-based designer, Heather’s work is defined by a hand-made aesthetic. Unexpected and unconventional media are explored in a subtle manner; fluid, distressed and layered backgrounds frequently merge alongside laser cuts, embellished detail and machine stitch.

Hints of origami structures transform 2D to 3D with the introduction of layers and movement in materials. Such tactile and interactive elements culminate in a series of miniature installations; tangible forms that can be held, engaged and manipulated.

Heather Leadbetter graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2009 with a first class honours degree in Textile Design.
