Valerie Woodgate BA works as a lecturer and guide in Tate Britain, Tate Modern and several major galleries as well as the National Trust and other organisations. She is a member of the teaching team at the Dulwich Picture Gallery and a script-writer for the Living Paintings Trust. She also runs courses at colleges of further education.

Since the 17th century, British artists have been responding to the beauty and variety of the British landscape. This lecture traced the origins and development of this much-loved subject in art, and included works by Gainsborough, Turner, Constable, the English Impressionists and, perhaps surprisingly, Turner Prize artists.
