  • Guided tour of Edinburgh
  • National Gallery of Scotland – guided tour
  • Palace of Holyroodhouse & the Queen’s Gallery
  • Royal Yacht Britannia – audio tour

We will stay two nights on half board basis at the 4* Best Western Plus Keavil House Hotel on the outskirts of Dunfermline. Located in a countryside setting, facilities at the hotel include a restaurant, bar, indoor swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room and a gymnasium.

Day 1  We depart by executive coach from our designated pick up points. En route to our hotel we visit Bowhill House and Country Estate in the Scottish Borders. For more than seven centuries the Scotts of Buccleuch have been part of Scottish Borders history and their principal house, Bowhill, is today home to the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensberry and a part of the internationally renowned Buccleuch art collection. We continue to the 4* Best Western Plus Keavil House Hotel for a two night stay on half board basis.

Day 2  Our Blue Badge Guide meets us at our hotel this morning and accompanies us throughout the day. On arrival in Edinburgh we enjoy a guided city tour, taking in sights such as the Castle, Royal Mile and Princes Street. We continue to the National Gallery of Scotland for a guided tour. Including paintings by renowned artists such as Van Dyck and Tiepolo, the Gallery is home to Scotland’s greatest collection of European paintings and sculpture from the Renaissance to Post-Impressionist eras. This afternoon we visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence in Scotland of Her Majesty the Queen and situated at the end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile against the backdrop of Arthur’s Seat. We also visit the Queen’s Gallery, built in the shell of the former Holyroodhouse Free Church and Duchess of Gordon’s School.

Day 3  After checking out of our hotel this morning and before returning home, we visit the Royal Yacht Britannia. Serving the Royal Family for over 40 years, the Royal Yacht played a leading role in some of the defining moments of recent history. The audio tour takes in the State Dining Room, the Bridge and the Queen’s Sitting Room.

The tour costs £239 per person. Extra costs include: single room supplement £29; insurance £20; entrance fees to places visited as part of this itinerary; gratuities.
